Update to 2011 Clearinghouse

We were alerted a few minutes ago that we transposed the data for Indiana University — Bloomington (Maurer) and for Indiana University — Indianapolis (McKinney). We’ve updated the clearinghouse accordingly.

As always, we seek to remedy mistakes as quickly as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you even suspect there’s been a mistake.

    You’ve transposed data for a number of New York area schools because you changed the column order from the ABA employment summaries.

    You group long-term columns and short-term columns, ABA groups full-time and part-time columns.

    I you look at the Employed section for Brooklyn, Cardozo, Columbia, Fordham and NYU, you’ll see that all have the data transposed in the long-term part-time column and the short-term full-time column (with a few exceptions where the numbers were identical in both columns or you accidentally put the number in the right column). Please see the detailed list below.

    I suggest you double check all the info you’ve posted, as you likely made this mistake for other schools.

    DETAILS:

    1. Brooklyn should be:
    Law Firms
    *2-10 attorneys: LT/PT 6, ST/FT 2
    *51-100 attorneys: LT/PT 1, ST/FT 0
    *501+ attorneys: LT/PT 0, ST/FT 1
    Business & Industry: LT/PT 1, ST/FT 9
    Public Interest: LT/PT 0, ST/FT 8
    Academia: LT/PT 0, ST/FT 1
    Employer Type Unkown: LT/PT 0, ST/FT 1
    EMPLOYED TOTAL: LT/PT 8, ST/FT 27
    (NOTE: Government data is accidentally correct)

    2. Cardozo should be:
    Law Firms
    *2-10 attorneys: LT/PT 8, ST/FT 1
    *501+ attorneys: LT/PT 0, ST/FT 1
    Public Interest: LT/PT 0, ST/FT 1
    Academia: LT/PT 0, ST/FT 1
    EMPLOYED TOTAL: LT/PT 13, ST/FT 10
    (NOTE: Government data is accidentally correct. Law Firms of 11-25 attorneys and Business & Industry are correct because the numbers are the same in both columns.)

    3. Columbia should be:
    Law Firms
    *2-10 attorneys: LT/PT 2, ST/FT 0
    Business & Industry: LT/PT 0, ST/FT 5
    Public Interest: LT/PT 0, ST/FT 1

    Thanks for the comment. Actually, in this case we didn’t transpose the columns, but did make an error in the coding. It’s been fixed.

    The “error in the coding” is still affecting your numbers for employment in Academia — and thus the totals for LT/PT and ST/FT for three of the New York schools (see below).

    I believe your data for the University of Miami is reporting the incorrect data that the ABA entered incorrectly and has since corrected … http://www.discourse.net/2012/06/um-law-employment-numbers-are-much-better-than-in-erroneous-aba-report.html

    Thanks for the update. We actually corrected this last night, though it was because we happened across an update to Karen Sloan’s NLJ story update. I assume it was you who alerted the ABA and NLJ, so thanks for that too.
