LST recognizes the importance of your privacy. The Privacy Policy applies to all websites and services offered by Law School Transparency and its affiliates. We can be reached via email at .
We do not require you to register for an account or provide any personal information to us in order to access our website(s). However, from time to time, we will ask you to provide personal information to utilize the full range of our services. This will sometimes require that you create an account.
When you sign up for an account on our website(s), we ask you for your email address and a unique username. We email a random password to you that you may change at any time. Your password is encrypted and we cannot, and will not attempt to, decrypt it at any time. If you forget the password, we cannot retrieve it for you. However, you may reset your password by visiting the password manager. Your email address is stored as plain text and you may change it at any time. In addition, we will store other information that you attach to your account. This may include things such as comments, biographical information, registration date, and other user-supplied information.
When you visit our website(s), we may send one or more cookies – a small file containing a string of characters – to your computer or other device that uniquely identifies your browser. This enables our software to communicate with our users effectively, and enables us to improve the quality of our service. We will not provide cookie information to any third party. Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies, but you can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some LST features and services may not function properly if your cookies are disabled.
When you visit our website(s), our server(s) automatically recognize and log information that your browser sends whenever you visit any website. These server logs may include information such as your web request, Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, date/time of the request, etc. Our server(s) do not recognize your email address unless you logged in and provided it to us. We collect this information, particularly information about your browser, to improve usability.
Our content management system, WordPress, saves the email addresses of those who post messages to our website(s) only if you provide the email address. Providing your email address may be required to participate in some services. Our email software will save the email addresses of those who communicate with us via email or Web form. However, we will never share your email address unless legally obligated to do so. We will only send you email when you register, forget your username or password, there is a critical privacy policy change, or you otherwise specify an interest in receiving email (email updates, new comments, etc.).
If you sign up to receive email updates, we will only send you updates in accordance with the settings you choose. If you select a parent category, such as “All Employment Data”, we will also send you updates of new child categories that were not included in the parent at sign-up. You may change your settings at any time by visiting the email update center. An update email may use a unique identifier to track whether the email is opened. We will only use the data collected from the unique identifier to track whether our update emails are opened.
When you correspond with LST, we may retain those communications and use reasonable judgment, factoring in LST’s mission, when publishing them. If your correspondence is on behalf of a law school, website, or publication, we reserve the right to publish your name and public email address. For individuals that send comments, employment data or stories, or provide tips, we will maintain your anonymity unless you expressly grant us authority to the contrary.
We take appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access to or unauthorized alteration, disclosure or destruction of data that we have collected from visitors. We restrict access to personal information to LST administrators, and agents of LST who need to know that information in order to operate, develop, or improve our services. These individuals are bound by confidentiality obligations and may be subject to discipline, including termination and criminal prosecution, if they fail to meet these obligations.
When you use LST services, we make good faith efforts to (a) provide you with access to your personal information and (b) either to correct this data if it is inaccurate or to delete such data at your request if it is not otherwise required to be retained by law or for legitimate business purposes. We ask individual users to identify themselves and the information requested to be accessed, corrected, or removed before processing such requests, and we may decline to process requests that are unreasonably repetitive or systematic, require disproportionate technical effort, jeopardize the privacy of others, or would be extremely impractical (for instance, requests concerning information residing on backup tapes), or for which access is not otherwise required. In any case where we provide information access and correction, we perform this service free of charge, except if doing so would require a disproportionate effort. Please send us email at the above address or visit the user dashboard to make changes yourself.
Please note that this Privacy Policy may change from time to time. We will post any Privacy Policy changes on this page and, if the changes are significant, we will provide a more prominent notice (including, for certain services, email notification of Privacy Policy changes). Each version of this Privacy Policy will be identified at the top of the page by its effective date, and we will also keep prior versions of this Privacy Policy in an archive for your review.
If you have any additional questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy, or you feel that this site is not following its stated policy, please feel free to contact us any time through this website or by email.
